Vendée Globe Race Start 9 November

The Vendée Globe, the singlehanded, round-the-world, non-stop yacht race, gets underway at Les Sables d’Olonne, France on Sunday 9 November.  Red Sky Sailing will be there with tall ship Thalassa in support of French yachtsman Sébastien Josse.

Chartered by sponsors BT, the Thalassa will provide a fantastic venue for Seb Josse’s supporters to see the race start off the French coast before he and the 29 strong fleet head out into the Atlantic and south towards Cape Horn.

The Thalassa will be hosting a number of events in Les Sables d’Olonne for BT’s VIP guests.

Frank Thomas Sailing  has been contracted by Let’s Do It Galway, organisers of the Volvo Ocean Race stopover in Galway and sister project of team Green Dragon, to provide a tall ship for corporate hospitality during the event.  The J.R. Tolkien will be in Galway from 28 May to 6 June 2009 to provide a VIP venue for corporate groups to watch the In-Port racing on 30 May and Volvo Ocean Race re-start on 6 June.

“We are very pleased to be going to Galway” says ship owner Jaap van der Rest.  “It is a very exciting race and Galway is going all out to make it a fantastic event.”
